How to Get and Use Restaurant Menu Templates in Google Docs?
Checklist of crucial points we aim to highlight here:
  1. Getting Started
  2. Getting Templates
  3. Customizing Templates

Here we basically talk about how to get and then customize a restaurant menu template in Google Docs.

There are many rules and guidelines for creating a cafe or restaurant menu. And if you are not familiar with graphic design and you don't want to contact professional designers or design companies, but you want to create nice-looking menus in as little time as possible, luckily, there are hundreds of templates for various cafe and restaurant types. Just get the most suitable templates from the web and edit them according to your requirements, tasks, ideas, etc.

Watch the video from https://thegoodocs.com/ and find out how to get and use restaurant menu templates in Google Docs:

NB! We will choose a sample restaurant menu template just to basically show you how you can customize it. There is a vast number of cafe and restaurant menu templates with various structures, designs, etc. So, you can always choose the most optimal menu templates for you.
lamp
NB! Please note that we apply all the customization absolutely randomly with the aim of showing you how to use particular options in Google Docs to make a menu from a template here. And you customize your menu template according to your tasks, requirements, ideas, etc.

Getting Started

First up, make sure you are signed in to your Google Account.

  • The simplest way to check that is to go to https://www.google.com/, and on the Google homepage, at the top right corner, check if there is your profile picture or an icon with a person if you don’t have your profile picture. This means you are signed in. So, then you can skip this part
1
  • If not, you will have this “Sign in” button; so, press it. Here, enter either your email address or a phone number linked to your Google Account. For example, we’re using our email here. And then we press “Next” over here. Now, on this page, enter your password and press “Next” over here. You will be redirected back to the Google homepage, and here you are signed in. You can always check this by looking at the top right corner here. And if there’s your profile picture or an icon with a person, that’s OK

Getting Templates

  • From the Google homepage, you can search for templates with a query like “google docs restaurant menu templates free”
6
  • Or you can go to some particular websites with menu templates like “the goo docs free templates”. So, enter this query, then scroll down, locating https://thegoodocs.com/ and pressing on it. And we’re on the homepage, and now let’s get some templates
7
8
  • Go to the “Templates” section on top to unfold the drop-down, and here drag the pointer to the “Marketing” column and the last item here is “Restaurant menus”. So, select “Restaurant menus”. On this page, there are, basically, dozens of different restaurant menu templates, all free for you, so choose whichever you like and use them absolutely free of charge. And as you can see, there are a few formats here, and, for example, to get exactly the Google Docs template, let’s filter them in the “Formats” drop-down and select “Google Docs”
9
10
11
12
  • Now, you can select the menu template you like out of these ones. For instance, we’ll choose “Simple Burger Restaurant Menu”. So, once you have found what you like, click on its image
13
14
  • And now, on this page, on the left, you can preview the template. And if you like it, next to the preview image, there is the “EDIT TEMPLATE” button. So, locate and press this red button with “EDIT TEMPLATE” on it. Here there is a single format: it's “US LETTER Template”. So, we click on it
15
16
17
  • On the next page, wait till the download starts, which will be done automatically. And if something went wrong, press “CLICK HERE”. In the next window, Google Drive will ask you if you want to copy the template to your Drive. So yes, to use it, press “Make a copy”, wait a bit, and it will open in front of you as a common Google Document. But now, it is your document that is located on your Google Drive. You can edit it, and all changes will be automatically saved. Now let’s customize this restaurant menu template a bit

Customizing Templates

Of course, it’s really individual and depends on which template you choose as well as your particular requirements, tasks, and tastes, but we'll do the basics just to show you how it works.

  • So, here you can start the customization process with the front page and the text on it: you can change it and type in what you need. And then you can add the specifics here
21
  • Then goes the second page with the features of the dishes, the story, the description of the restaurant, etc. Just type in what you need, or even delete this or another page if you don’t need it. For that, you can select the image and just press “Backspace” on the keyboard. And then the same goes for the text. Select it all from the top to the bottom of the page and clear it. Then you would want to put it all in place. And here we go
22
  • And then comes the third page — the exact menu with the dishes and their descriptions. And what’s good here is the flexibility. Basically, for instance, you can just delete this picture and put yours in its place. For that, go to the “Insert” item on the toolbar at the top of the page. Then select “Image” and “Upload from computer” (you can choose any options you need here). Select the image that you need, double click, and here you have it in the document
23
24
25
26
27
28
  • Let’s reduce the image by selecting the image and pulling one of these squares around it and dragging it to the center of the image
29
30
  • Okay, now let’s put the image in the right place. So, make sure the image is selected. And then, on this little bar below the image, click on the last but one icon (“In front of text”). Now that we have freed the image, click-hold on it and place it the way so that it matches other images. And then we adjust its size to make it fit as well
31
32
33
34
35
36
  • For example, now we can rename the position of the image and change its color, font, and formatting. Then, for instance, we can change the cost and the description of the dish. And the same concerning the remaining dishes here
37
  • Then you have a differently designed page for some diversity where, for instance, let’s say, we can delete the background image and instead put the one you need but in a bit different way now. First of all, go to “Insert” at the top of the page, then press “Image” and “Upload from computer” (and you can choose any options you need here). And we are choosing the necessary image and double-click on it. Here it is
38
39
40
41
42
  • Now we are reducing the image size and then making it free with this bar below. This time we need the button standing for placing the image behind the text (“Behind text”). So, click it, and you can see the result. Now press on the “Move with text” line on the bar below the image and select “Fix position on page”. Now the image will stay where you place it regardless of anything, so let us put it in the top left corner of the page. And right after that, we will increase it to make it cover the whole page. And there we go. Of course, it’s not perfect, and you need to have a more correct size image, but it’s here, and it works perfectly as a demonstration
43
44
45
46
47
  • Now, for example, the same concerning the next page
48
  • And the final page here: with some details, with the text that you can modify, and with the background image that you can change with the method described above
49
50

Then you can print a few copies of the ready menu and have it in the cafe or restaurant.

lamp
NB! When you select the image, you can look at other options on the bar below the image and apply what you need. And please remember to select the image when you start customizing it.
lamp
NB! This is just a bit of random customization so that you may use these as well as additional options to customize the menu template as you need.

We hope this tutorial will help you learn how to get and use restaurant menu templates in Google Docs. Good luck!
