Novel Book Templates FAQ
The format of your novel depends on whether you're submitting it to an editor or self-publishing.
For submissions to publishers, the standard manuscript format is used:
- A title page with the author's name, title of the work, and contact information.
- The page size is 8.5 x 11 inches or A4.
- The body text should use a 12-point serif font.
- Double line spacing is required (so the editor can make notes between the lines).
- 1-inch (2-2.54 cm) margins at the top and bottom.
- Print on one side of the sheet only.
Technical formatting for self-publishing:
- PDF format for print and EPUB for digital publication.
- 5.5 x 8.5, 6 x 9 inches, or A5 page sizes (trim sizes).
- 1.15 to 1.3 line spacing.
- Equal margins on all sides (1 inch or 2.54 cm).
- Each chapter starts on a new page (with the chapter title placed a third of the way down).
