4 Panel Comic Templates FAQ

How to make a 4-panel comic?

Designing the initial layout for a 4-panel comic isn't that difficult, especially with our ready-made templates. Getting the structure right is key here. Based on the most popular comics, such as Peanuts, Garfield, and others, we can identify an effective but fairly strict structure:

  • In the first panel, introduce the plot. Use this space to establish your characters and show the scene.
  • In the second panel, demonstrate the action starting. The characters might get into trouble or come up with an interesting idea.
  • In the third panel, the climax occurs. This is where the idea either works or fails, and the tension peaks.
  • In the fourth panel, show the resolution. This should be the reaction of your characters or the final punchline.

Once your idea takes shape, it's time to create the layout. You can create four square panels of the same size with equal margins, or get creative. For example, making them different sizes and shapes, with sharp angles or varying line thicknesses, which can better convey the humor or mood.

To save you from the tedious work, we offer our 4-panel comic strip templates. All you have to do is find a template that matches your idea, download it for free, and add your illustrations. Once everything is ready, save the file as a PDF for printing or as a PNG/JPG for social media, and share your creation!
