In this tutorial, we upload different docs, files, and folders onto Google Drive.
Watch the video from https://thegoodocs.com/ and learn how to upload a document into Google Docs:
Upload Word, Excel, PowerPoint & PDF to Google Docs
There’s a lot of benefits of using Google Drive to store your documents and files. The files can be accessed online from any device, and with that, it makes you able to edit them remotely, share them with other people; and on top of that, it allows you to arrange collaborative work on the documents with other people online. Currently, Google Drive supports editing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and even PDF files. Let’s upload them and start editing.
Uploading Docs and Folders
We have prepared four documents to download onto Google Drive and then edit them. As you can see, it’s Excel sheets, PDF, PowerPoint, and Word. Basically, that is performed either from the menu on Google Drive or simply by dragging and dropping the file from a computer.
So, here on the top left, we press the “New” button. The menu unfolds, and we need either “File upload” or “Folder upload”. At first, we will upload the file pressing on the File upload item
It opens the explorer, where we locate the file, double click on it, and it’s getting uploaded
Here it is
Or drag and drop a file or a folder from a PC which you can do by just opening the explorer on a computer, locating the file, and just dropping it here
Waiting a bit, and our folder is here
The part with uploading is finished. Now let’s open the documents.
Working with Word Doc
We will open the folder we have uploaded
And start from a Word file. Double click on it and wait a bit
And got it open in a new tab in the browser
Here on top, next to its name, you can see that the file format is Microsoft Docx
NB! Although, unlike before, now Google Drive offers full editing possibilities for external documents, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint slides, and Excel sheets, which is incredible. Since earlier you could just watch them, and to edit, you would have had to convert them to Google Document format. Well, not anymore. It is incredibly handy, a lot of thanks to Google.
Because earlier it would look like this:
You will go to “File” on the top toolbar and press “Save as Google Docs”
Wait a bit, and it will create a copy in Google Docs format. Now you can edit it
Working with Excel, PowerPoint & PDF
And let’s also see PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF.
Back to the Drive. And let’s open the PowerPoint presentation with a double click
Wait a bit, and here it is in the new tab with the file format specified next to the document’s name, but absolutely editable as a Google Slides file. And you don’t have to convert it to pure Google Slides anymore
Back to the Drive, and the same applies to Excel. Let’s open it
And here you have a fully editable sheet that still remains in Excel format
Back to Drive, and what’s next is the PDF file
NB! Okay, so, since a PDF format is an absolutely different one from Adobe, you will have to convert it to Google Docs beforehand.
Open it, go up, locate the “Open with Google Docs” button, and press it
Wait, and here you have the Google Docs file made out of PDF, which is surprisingly accurate with no major changes. Since normally there’s a lot of complications when you work with a PDF file outside of Adobe Acrobat. And this is it
We hope this tutorial will help you learn how to upload a document into Google Docs. Good luck!
