How to Center a Table in Google Docs?
There are a lot of tools to customize a table in Google Docs. And this time, we touch on the table alignment on the page and the alignment of the text in it. And it works with images as well — basically, with all types of content inside the table.
Watch the video from https://thegoodocs.com/ and find out how to center a table in Google Docs:
Aligning a Table to the Center
- Let us quickly create a table first. We’ll go to the “Insert” item on the toolbar at the top of the page and then go down to the second line, “Table”. And we are setting its size to be, for example, 4 by 4 cells. And then click on the last selected cell. Here’s our table
- Okay, so, initially, the table is aligned rather to the left on the page. That’s especially noticeable when you change its size. Like when you decrease the width of the columns or modify page settings
- Then we want to make it look better and put it in the center. To do that, click with a right mouse button on any cell in your table (for example, we have clicked with a right mouse button on a random cell, and we have put a mark on the screenshot below), then in the context menu, locate and press on the “Table properties” item
- And once the sidebar on the right shows up, click on the “Alignment”. Here you need this second line, “Table alignment”. Press on the drop-down and select “Center”. There you go
Aligning Data in the Table
Now concerning aligning data in the table. By default, when you enter something into the cell, it is aligned to the left (you will see this on the screenshot below). And vertically, the text is always put on top, so you can see there’s a lot of empty space below the text (you will see this on the screenshot below). And we want to center the data both horizontally and vertically in the cell. Here below is a random text that is currently aligned to the left and is put on top so that there is a lot of empty space below the text.
- For horizontal alignment, we use our common text alignment tool on the toolbar. So, you select a single cell or multiple cells (for instance, we have selected multiple cells), and then go to this item on the toolbar (“Center align”) and click on it. And here the text is put in the middle horizontally
- For a vertical alignment, select a single cell or multiple cells, click on any selected cell (for instance, we have selected multiple cells and clicked on any random cell from the selected ones) with a right mouse button, and choose “Table properties”. It’s the same “Alignment” bar in the sidebar, but this time we open the drop-down list below the “Cell vertical alignment” line and choose “Middle”
Here we go! Now there is a perfectly aligned text both horizontally and vertically.
