How to Add a Video in Google Slides?
If you're looking to create an engaging presentation, adding a video can be a powerful way to keep your audience engaged and interested. Google Slides, a free and easy-to-use presentation tool, offers a simple way to add videos to your slides. In this tutorial, we'll guide you through the step-by-step process of adding a video to your presentation. So let’s get started!
Adding a Video from the Search Bar, URL, or Drive
First, make sure you have the video file you want to add saved to your computer or Google Drive. But…..that’s not crucial at all! The best thing about working with Google Slides is that you may insert a video from the web resource. It is fantastic, right?
Once you have your video ready, open your Google Slides presentation and navigate to the slide you want to add the video to. For this tutorial, we’ll use a premade template presenting a marketing strategy and would insert a video that explains how marketing works.
Next, select the Insert tab from the top menu bar and click on Video. This will open up a dropdown menu with a few different options for adding your video.
The first option is to Search for a video on YouTube. Simply type in the search bar to find the video you want, and then click Select to add it to your slide.
The second option is to By URL. If you already have a Youtube page opened with a chosen video, simply copy the video's URL and paste it into the same search field.
The third option is to use Google Drive storage. If you have your video saved to your Google Drive, you can select it from the list of files and folders. It will be suitable for people who just shoot the video for the company’s needs and haven’t uploaded it to any social media yet.
But what if you need a video from any other resources like Vimeo, Twitch, or Dailymotion and you are running out of time to download this video or can’t download it? Here’s the decision: use hyperlinks!
Just make a screenshot for the video you want to broadcast and insert it into the certain slide as we made below. Use the Insert menu or right-click with your mouse and choose Paste.
Now choose the Insert Link option on the toolbar menu and insert a link to your video. Apply.
Here is the result – your image is linked to the video. You can click it and you will be redirected to the video page.
Note: while presenting your Google Slides campaign, make sure your internet connection is fine and your image is linked to the correct video URL.
Feel free to use all these possible ways as it is easy and gives you the power of spreading visually appealing knowledge. Get your audience to feel the atmosphere of your business ideas or campaigns.
For this tutorial, we’ll simply insert a video from Youtube with the help of a Search bar.
Customization: Format Your Video
Once you've selected your video, you can resize and reposition it on your slide as needed. You can also use the playback controls to preview your video and adjust its volume.
For this, go to Format options on your toolbar. Click that to see the right-sided panel appear. At the Video playback submenu, you may choose the starting and ending point of the video and playing mode (automatically, or with a click).
There is also a Drop Shadow option to create a shadow effect beneath the video, Size/Rotation, and Position submenus. Feel free to experiment with it.
One important thing to keep in mind is that if you're presenting from a different computer than the one where you added your video, you'll need to make sure the video file is available on that computer as well. One way to do this is to upload the video to a cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox, and then make sure you have access to it from the computer you'll be presenting from.
Why Is It Beneficial to Add Videos to Presentation?
So here is the list of benefits you enjoy after using a video in your presentation.
- Captivate Your Audience
Adding a video to your Google Slides presentation is an excellent way to capture the attention of your audience. Videos are more visually appealing and engaging than static images, graphs, and data. Incorporating videos into your presentation can bring your message to life and leave a lasting impression on your audience.
- Explain Complex Concepts
Sometimes, it can be difficult to explain complex ideas using only text and images. With the help of videos, you can explain even the most complicated topics in a more digestible and simplified way. For example, if you're presenting a product demonstration, use a video to showcase its features and benefits. When you use a video in this way, your audience can visualize, understand and remember the content better.
- Demonstrate How to Do Something
Have you ever given a presentation on "how to" do something, like cook a dish, program your product, or install software? Instead of simply telling your audience how to do it, show them in a video! Demonstrating how something is done makes your presentation more informative, and helps break down the complicated procedures into easy-to-understand steps.
- Use as a Storytelling Tool
Videos are fantastic at conveying messages in a storytelling format. Use a video to tell your brand's story, share testimonials from satisfied customers, or show the impact of your efforts in a community. A well-written script along with a powerful video can deliver your message in a format that resonates with your audience. It can stay with them long after the presentation is over.
- Make a Lasting Impression
Your presentation must leave a memorable and positive view on your audience. Adding professional videos to your Google Slides presentation will help set you apart from others and leave a lasting impression. Videos demonstrate a level of professionalism and an intensive approach taken to transform your presentation.
